    The Senior Payroll Specialist ensures accurate and timely processing of multi-state payroll, including time and attendance, general ledger, and tax reporting in compliance with local, state and federal regulations, researches and resolves complex pay related issues for employees and managers and leads response for audit requests and payroll related projects.

    Responsibilities

    • Process and reconcile semi-monthly payrolls prior to and following transmission.
    • Verify and post complex payroll and time & attendance data; ensure accuracy of files reported to general ledger.
    • Review timesheets for accuracy and compliance with written policies and procedures, as well as state and federal rules and regulations.
    • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions are processed accurately and timely.
    • Research, analyze, and resolve payroll-related problems or questions.
    • Process manual checks, including the calculation of final paychecks, as required.
    • Review and process accurate year-end reporting such as W-2s, 1095-C, 1094-B, and other required tax filings; and ensure quarterly and annual tax filings are completed by vendor in a timely manner.
    • Act as payroll system administrator for implementation of new employees, managers, and related system security.
    • Process garnishment calculations and ensure notice compliance and proper payroll deduction setup.
    • Provide payroll reporting to Accounting. Create and run ad-hoc reports as needed.
    • Lead audit response including identifying, procuring, and communicating required data.
    • Process new benefit enrollments and changes, including 401(k) deferrals, and coordinate with Benefits Specialist to reconcile benefit invoices.
    • Develop, test, and implement payroll interface files with benefit and other vendors.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal payroll tax laws.
    • Facilitate time and attendance training sessions for managers.
    • Develop and implement procedures for streamlining the payroll process.
    • Maintains knowledge of applicable state and federal wage and hour laws
    • Facilitates management and employee understanding of payroll requirements and procedures.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field/work experience
    • 5+ years of experience in payroll administration or related field
    • Thorough understanding of federal, state, and local payroll laws.
    • Knowledge of principles and practices of payroll preparation and management.
    • Knowledge of payroll & HRMS software - previous experience working with UltiPro is a plus
    • Intermediate level knowledge of MS Office suite
    • Problem solving skills, thoroughness, and strong attention to detail.
    • Ability to interpret complex payroll laws, regulations, and/or policies.
    • Ability to collect, interpret, and/or analyze data and information.
    • Ability to effectively communicate complex information and ensure employee understanding.
    • Ability to calculate figures and amounts.
    • Ability to accurately complete detailed forms and amounts
