The Commercial Underwriter will be responsible for the underwriting, analysis and documentation of commercial PACE loans and for presenting conclusions and recommendations for approval.   Ensures processes are followed and documented thoroughly to mitigate risk and ensure Ygrene makes sound lending decisions 

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate and thorough analysis of credit risk and proper documentation for all commercial PACE loan packages
  • Review and understand borrower credit, including credit report, personal and business financial statements, personal and business tax returns and schedule of real estate owned
  • Review borrower organizational documents and accurately present the borrower structure along with Guarantors in the narrative
  • Review appraisals, environmental reports and any other third-party reports and summarize conclusions in the narrative
  • Analyze loans to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a transaction and recommend mitigating factors; recommends appropriate controls and covenant structure for new credit requests
  • Identify and analyzes inconsistencies and inaccuracies in customer data, including spreads, aging's, projections and other financial documents.
  • Provide detailed industry analysis and understand potential impacts on the client and credit request
  • Prepare collateral charts, cash flows, risk ratings and other attachments, as needed
  • Contact/communicate with relationship managers and their assistants to discuss issue and outstanding documentation
  • Independently contacts customers to obtain answers for credit requests
  • Develops and recommends process improvements to commercial underwriting procedures and ensure procedures are followed accurately
  • Prepare financing documents and coordinate accurate execution of same with property owners, contractors and signing agents.
  • Review and confirm project completion with appropriate permits, inspections and lien releases as applicable. 
  • Performs OFAC checks and identifying issues 
  • Review and provide feedback on initial credit memorandums prepared by other members of the team
  • Serves as mentor and assists with training more junior underwriters
  • Act as a resource for district staff and troubleshoot projects.
  • Investigates title searches, surveys and UCC (Uniform Commercial Code) searches as requested. Works with CAM and Pipeline team to resolve issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business administration or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years of commercial underwriting, credit, or other lending experience
  • Must have an ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Knowledge of commercial underwriting practices and policies
  • Knowledge of credit analysis and business statements, including spreading software
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to deliver excellent service to teammates, sales staff and customers
  • Intermediate to advance level Microsoft Office skills including Word and Excel
  • Ability to independently manage daily tasks and short-term projects
  • Highly organized and attention to detail
