The Commercial Underwriter’s primary job function is to perform review and analysis of documents and information throughout the application process and present conclusions and recommendations.  The quality, completeness and accuracy of the Underwriter’s analysis are of utmost importance to ensure that Ygrene makes sound lending decisions. 


  • Input and understanding of property rent rolls, leases and operating statements
  • Review and understanding of borrower credit, including credit report, personal and business financial statements, personal and business tax returns and schedule of real estate owned
  • Review borrower organizational documents and accurately present the borrower structure along with Guarantors in the Narrative
  • Review appraisals, environmental reports and any other third party reports and summarize conclusions in the narrative
  • Review and understanding of preliminary title report
  • Analyze loans to assess the strengths and weaknesses of a transaction and recommend mitigating factors
  • Function as a problem solver
  • Contact/communicate with relationship managers and their assistants to discuss issue and outstanding documentation
  • Provide training to peers as needed
  • Review and provide feedback on initial credit memorandums prepared by other members of the team
  • Adhere to Ygrene’s policies and credit guidelines
  • Actively participate in team meetings
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and thorough analysis of credit risk and proper documentation for all applicants and projects for mortgage type underwriting.
  • Act as a resource for district staff and troubleshoot projects.
  • Prepare financing documents and coordinate accurate execution of same with property owners, contractors and signing agents.
  • Review and confirm project completion with appropriate permits, inspections and lien releases as applicable. 
  • Coordinate with final funding department and prepare file and transaction for orderly completion.


  • Daily shift may include evenings and weekends.
  • 5+ years experience in commercial real estate underwriting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have understanding of business financial statements and spreading software
  • Ability to deliver excellent service to teammates, sales staff and customers
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while delivering accurate and quality work product
  • May require some flexible hours into evenings as scheduled.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PDF Conversions.
  • Ability to independently manage daily tasks and short-term projects.
  • Highly organized and attention to detail is a must.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
